The Spam Smacker engine has recently been upgraded to provide better
performance and reliability. You should first apply this patch before you
contact our support representatives.

Installing Spam Smacker on a Windows 2003 Server
Spam Smacker 1.1 is compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows 2003
servers. However, because of the tighter security restrictions in Windows
2003 server, you will need to make the following changes on the server in
order to Spam Smacker to function correctly:
- Create a new Domain User called SpamSmacker (or whatever you like).
- Go to Administrative tools->Component Services->Component
Services->Computers->My Computer->DCOM Config->SSFilt.clsFiles->Right
Click Properties->Identity->Select This User and put the username as
mydomain\SpamSmacker and password as SpamSmacker's password. Confirm
password. Hit Apply and OK.
- Using File Explorer, navigate to "C:\Program Files\SpamSmacker" and
give Full Control permissions to the SpamSmacker account.
- Using regedt32, navigate to the "HKLM\Software\ProExchange" key and
give Full Control permission to the SpamSmacker account.
These steps will allow the SpamSmacker Engine to run under the
specificed account.
Upgrading Spam Smacker 1.0 to 1.1
You can download the specific engine and web file updates or you can
use the setup routine in 1.1 to apply the updates.
- Run the existing "Spam Smacker Setup
and Configuration" and select Stop Spam Filter.
- Close "Spam Smacker Setup and
Configuration".
- Go To Add/Remove Programs and
uninstall SPAM Smacker
- Run SSInstall1.1.exe and proceed
through each step. If you were using an access database, and wish to use
the existing database then you select the same folder to install the
SPAM Smacker 1.0 was installed in. By default this is C:\Program Files\SPAMSmacker.
- Once SPAM Smacker 1.1 is installed run
"Spam Smacker 1.1 Setup and Configuration" from the Start menu.
- Select "Setup Registry" and configure
the setting in the dialog as you require. If you have an existing
pre-populated SPAM Smacker 1.0 Database that you want to use then enter
the settings for it here and click "Test Connection" and skip to step 8.
Ensure you save your changes then click Close.
- If you are stating with a new database
then select Setup Database and go proceed with the database setup as
normal.
- Select Setup IIS and proceed through
the setup steps.
- Finally select "Start Filter".
You will now be running the 1.1 version of
SPAM Smacker.
